Alicia Sacramone, captain of the U.S. Olympic Women's Gymnastics Team which won silver in Beijing in 2008, has her eye on the London Olympics this summer. She is currently working her way back from an achilles injury she sustained just days before she was set to compete at the World Championships this past October. While many athletes might panic about the limited time that would leave them for rehab & to get back intro training, Alicia has the right outlook. She said to ESPN-W, "I tell myself to think about all the hard work I've done to get healthy, all the years of training I have in my past. When I start to worry that I won't be back in shape in time, I remind myself I have 15 years of competitive gymnastics to draw on. That doesn't just disappear because you've been sidelined for a few months."
I certainly hope for the best for Alicia, but making the 5 member Olympic team as a 2-event specialist will certainly not be easy.
